Titus 2:3-5 King James Version (KJV)
3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;
4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,
5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
Day 4
Titus II – “Teachers of Good Things”
We learn a lot of things from our upbringing. Some of the simplest but most powerful lesson begin in the kitchen even before we begin to walk. We learn to say “please” and “thank you”, to have manners, and to be nice to everyone. As I grew up as little girl, I can remember learning lessons of cleanliness, self love, and self respect. My mother would take open opportunities to teach me lessons on motherhood; how to care for my baby dolls and my toys.
The Titus II woman must be a teacher of good things. Some say that good is a relative terms. But I beg to differ, the writer is using the term good in the sense of that which is right. We must teach things of value and of virtue.
You may say that you do not have higher education experience and even struggle with helping the children with homework but your knowledge of these things is not what the writer is emphasizing. We must be teachers of the things of God.
A great starting point is with his son, Jesus Christ. Christ showed men the way to salvation. You can start there. Teaching your children of Him is a great beginning for a teacher of good things. The only prerequisite for this teacher is that you must be a student of the Word.
To teach about Him you must first know him. We will discuss in the next lesson the reason why you must be a teacher of “good” things.
Think on these things…
Lord, give me the desire to learn of you that I may be a teacher of things concerning you! Help me to focus on the good things! And to fill my mind with your Words that I may want to share you with others. Lord, open my mind and my perspective that I make room for your lesson plans! Amen!
