Titus II Challenge: Day 3

Titus 2:3-5 King James Version (KJV)

The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;

That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,

To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

On Day 3, we will dive into an area that is tough to discuss but oh, so important!

Titus II – “Not Given To Much Wine”

Family celebrations, weddings, etc., these are times where we look to celebrate with family and friends and enjoy ourselves with food and drink.  Drinking a glass of wine and celebrating with family is not the type of wine that we will discuss in this verse.  We will tap into the metaphorical component on this word, “wine”.

We want to approach this from the aspect of “intoxication”.  In the previous lesson, we discussed not as Titus II women that we cannot be false accusers.  As ladies, sometimes we do not want to discuss the truth of the matter.  The truth is that we have become intoxicated with mess.  Gossip, ‘the tea’, whispers, tidbits, scandal, tell tales, and any other term that you use for it – it all means the same – intoxication.    We must be sober-minded if we want to be effective in ministry, motherhood, and marriage.

Further in this chapter of Titus, verses 11 & 12, the writer tells us that it is “the grace of God…that teaches us that…we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in the present world…”

Our minds must be clear of the mess and the drama that gossip brings with to it.  A cloudy mind leaves room for doubt and change in perception.  We must be clear headed if we must be ready to stand.

To clear you mind of clutter, do a little spring spiritual cleaning by reading the Word of God.

Think on these things…

Lord, clear my mind and replace it with your words.  Remind me of the sweet flavor of your words and how these same words can help me to be better.  Thank you, Oh God, for your grace that reminds me that I must be sober-minded if I am to carry out ministry and help those in need that they may see you in me!  Amen!
