Scripture: I Peter 1:13
verse 13 “Wherefore gird up the loins of the mind; be sober and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”
We’ve learned in recent months that preparation is important. With Coronavirus and the shortage of very much needed supplies including toiletries, meat, etc., we have learned that it is beneficial to prepare for emergencies. It seems that in times of emergencies, like severe storms, hurricanes, medical emergencies that this is when we think about PREPARATION. We scrounge for batteries, flashlights, and water to prepare for the worst.
We should take on this same mentality of preparation in our spiritual lives as we do in our physical lives. Preparing spiritually is a wise move and improves our mental and emotional beings.
“Wherefore” in this particular verse translates as “as a result of this”, meaning that there is something prior to this verse that ushers us into verse 13. Prior to this verse, Paul introduces chapter 1 with a discussion of our incorruptible inheritance, the trying of our faith and our salvation. We must be prepared by girding up the loins of our mind.
Wrap up, tighten, and equip your mind and ready for action or movement. There are 4 areas that we must prepare for:
First Area of Preparation
Prepare for walking – we must make preparation for productive movement; believers must have a mentality of movement and growth not one of stagnate. Adam was commissioned in the Garden of Eden to “…be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth …” (Genesis 1:28)
When one transitions from a sitting position to a position of standing it is a sign of preparation for walking or simply movement.
- What steps of preparation will you take in reference to your spirit, your mind, and your emotions?
- How will you prepare spiritually for “movement”?
- What scriptures of reference will you incorporate into your “gird up” routine?
- What will your daily routine to prepare your spiritual mind?
…Next, we will explore the final three areas of preparation…
